This is a very common elbow pain syndrome, which is not connected only with playing tennis. It often occurs in people who quite physically strain the arm and forearm, particularly with the repetitive dorsiflex movements of wrist (movement of the palm upward from the grounding). This type of straining is common because of physical work as well as because work on the computer (typing, using a mouse). The pain typically occurs on the outside of the elbow, increasing when loading the arm, sometimes emanates on the backbone of the forearm. The cause of it is a common inflammation of the overloaded joint ingrowths of the tendons on the outside of the elbow.
In the early stage, problems may disappear at rest. Conservative treatment should firstly include the implementation of stretching exercises for the forearm muscles, hand massage of the painful area, irradiation of the painful area with ultrasound and laser, the patient might also get an antirheumatic prescription. In the case of serious problems, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is recommended, or local infiltration of painful areas with concentrated platelet plasma (PRP – Ortokin).Arthroscopic surgery with the relaxation of degenerative changed tendon ingrowths comes into consideration in those where the pain in conservative treatment have not decreased. The procedure is minimally invasive and is performed clinically. In this operation, we, in minimally invasive way, remove degeneratively changed part of the tendon, which causes chronic inflammation with pain, and in this way, we eliminate the problem.
